Hopefully everyone is now back and refreshed from their summer holidays. Unfortunately for some of us the summer has been spent cramming in last minute training in preparation for our annual cycle fund raising event! This is the ride’s tenth outing since starting out from London back in 2007 and last year with your help Team PDR and its sponsors raised a massive £10,500, contributing to an overall collective fundraising total for all the riders of over £50,000! Another fantastic achievement. Thank You.
This year PDR’s contingent will again be myself, our contracts Director David Maughan, and our Finance Director Lee Newsham. On Monday 12th September, starting out from last year’s finish line in Berlin, we are heading due North, and with the help of one short ferry crossing and lots of long bridges, our goal is to hopefully arrive in the Capital of Denmark, Copenhagen, 5 days later on Friday 16th September, covering over 400 miles along the way.
Last year you may recall we supported Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) after our friend and previous PDR employee Graham Loncaster lost his 13 year old son Jamie on 14th March 2015 suddenly and without warning to an undiagnosed heart condition. Cardiac Risk in the Young support and fund a national screening programme to detect otherwise hidden problems so that they can be treated. So far from the funds you donated last year the first heart screening sessions have been held on 31st May and 1st June 2016 in memory of Jamie Loncaster. 200 young people were screened over two days with about 4 children having a further more detailed ultrasound and as a direct result of these screenings 5 young people were referred to their GP for further investigation or tests. Cardiac Risk in the Young’s national statistics show that 1 in 100 young people screened is found to have a problem with their heart and 1 in 300 screened has a potentially life-threatening condition. It is clear that these screening sessions save young lives and this year we are once again supporting this worthy cause with 50% of Team PDR’s fundraising efforts going to Jamie’s memorial fund to pay for further screening programmes of young people in our area. There is so much more information on why we are passionate about this charity on the website set up by Jamie’s parents: http://www.jamieloncaster.co.uk/.
We are also once again pleased and proud to be supporting Bloodwise (formerly Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research) https://bloodwise.org.uk/ and Action Against Cancer http://aacancer.org/professorjustinstebbing who will be sharing the 50% balance of our fundraising. Both of these cancer charities do amazing work which we have been lucky enough to see for ourselves first hand, but there are far more reasons to support them than I can list here therefore for the sake of brevity please do not hesitate to follow the links to see just why they are worthy of your help and support.
How to Donate: –
Online via: –
Donations can also be made by cheque made payable to “PDR Construction Ltd Charity Account” and sent to our head office: Salisbury House, Saxon Way, Hessle, HU13 9PB.
NB It hopefully goes without saying that every penny of your donation goes to the charities. We are fully funding our own costs and expenses.
As last year you will be able to follow our progress on Twitter (@ PDR_Team) https://twitter.com/PDR_Team where we will be tweeting direct from the saddle, and posting a daily web link each morning so you can track our live minute by minute progress heading North to Copenhagen from a Google Maps link to Lee’s Bike Computer.
In the meantime thank you so much in anticipation of your support. I know many of you support us every year and we urge you to do so again as I can assure you that it does not go unnoticed.
If you have not supported us before please make this the year to start and help us try and better last year’s total for what we hope you will agree are three very worthy causes.
